What happens to your files
Zipfile is built so that your files stay on your own machine. This page explains what that means in practice, and what we actually store.
- No file upload
- No account
- No tracking today
Your files are not sent to us
When you create an archive with Zipfile, the files are read by your browser and compressed by the browser’s own engine. No part of the content is sent to a server of ours or anyone else’s. The finished archive is created on your machine, and it is you who decides whether it is saved.
This is not merely a claim. We have inspected all network traffic from the browser while an archive was being built, and no request carrying file content went out. Should a future feature require something to be processed on a server, it will be stated clearly before you choose a file, not afterwards.
What we store about you
We store no user accounts, no file names, no passwords and no file contents. You do not have to register to use the tools.
- We have no analytics tools on the site today.
- We set no cookies for marketing.
- WordPress may set technical cookies if you log in as an editor. That does not apply to ordinary visitors.
- The web server keeps ordinary access logs, as all web servers do. They hold IP address, time and which page was fetched — never anything about the files you work with.
Settings stored locally
The tool can remember small choices in your browser, for example whether you want to point out where the archive should be saved. Such choices stay on your device and are not passed on. Clear your browser data and they are gone.
Advertising
The site has space reserved for advertising, but no advertising code is loaded today. The fields you may see with a thin outline are empty placeholders, there so that the page does not jump when advertising is eventually connected.
When advertising is switched on, we will update this page with who the supplier is and which data they process — before the adverts are shown, not after.
Third parties
The tools use no external libraries from foreign servers. The compression is done with functions that already exist in the browser, and all code is loaded from our own site. The same goes for the typeface: Inter is hosted on our own server, not at Google. We have measured every page in the browser, and no request goes to any host other than our own.
Your rights
Because we collect no personal data about you beyond what the web server logs contain, there is very little to request access to. If you nevertheless want access, correction or deletion, get in touch and we will answer.
Who is behind it
